She’s wearing your ring now…what about the wedding?

Wedding tipsGood job big guy, you got the lady to agree to marry you.  Look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself one more question. Have I ever helped plan for a wedding?  I doubt it. If you need some help with wedding tips I say you should go to someone who has been there and done that.

I found a website at wedding-needs.com that has quite a bit of useful information to help you understand the crazy ride you are about to go on for this wedding thing. It includes a wedding calculator.  I know you’re asking me, “why should a guy care about how much the wedding costs”? Doesn’t the wife’s family pay for it? Traditionally yes, but think about if you had 3 daughters that you just helped pay to go to college.  How much spare change do you have to pay for $30,000 wedding for each of them?

I’ve heard a number of stories where men have either helped offset the cost of the wedding or the wife used her credit cards to pay for the wedding and brought the debt into the marriage.  The credit card one can make for happy in laws but unhappy financial stress in the first few years of marriage ESPECIALLY if the finance did not disclose her $40,000 of credit card debt she was bringing into the marriage.

Are you a guy who could care less about the wedding? Well, even if you don’t fell like worrying with the wedding this website has some very useful tools on it to assist your fiance with the whole process.  I’m sure you would rather have a finance that doesn’t become bridezilla from all of the stress of the wedding.

This site even include examples of good wording for wedding invitations, planning a rehearsal dinner, and even how to throw a cheap wedding reception (for the guy who has to pay for for it :-) . Overall a good primer to prepare you for how much planning a wedding entails.  Not one of those things you can spontaneously throw together at the last minute (hopefully your proposal wasn’t done that way, mine was :-)

I was unlucky, my wife spent $16,000 on her credit cards for her wedding. That was 4 years ago and we are still paying it off

$0.00 … seven years ago. We did the justice of the peace and have been happily (most of the time) married ever since. I just couldn’t see spending that much money on a dress I’d wear once and all the other stuff that went along with a wedding. I swear I may have been on “Bride-zilla” if I attempted to do so!

What about if dad had FIVE daughters to marry off? That’s my family’s situation. The first is getting married in late October, and I am engaged but there are no plans yet – likely no wedding for another 1.5+ years because we don’t want to end up with a lot of debt!
