Honeymoon travel advice for the engaged – Part 1

August 9th, 2007 by beth16

So now you’ve popped the question and this lady has accepted.  What now?  It’s a good idea to start now thinking about the honeymoon. The top 10 travel destinations for honeymooners in 2007 included:

  1. Aruba HoneymoonAruba
  2. Bermuda
  3. Florida
  4. Hawaii
  5. Italy (my personal favorite)
  6. Jamaica
  7. Las Vegas (what happens here, stays here)
  8. Mexico (be careful if you have a weak stomach)
  9. St. Lucia
  10. Tahiti

When I took my wife on our honeymoon cruise to the Caribbean 10 years ago the internet was only in it’s infancy. I booked through an agent I found online and received a better deal there than the Cruise had to offer direct.  I thought I was doing great $2,100 later for a 7 day cruise. Now I could have gotten the same cruise for half the price using the resources out their now.

My favorite portal is Vacationstogo.com.  My wife and I recently went on a trip to Alaska and purchased reservations through their and only paid $699 per person for a memorable 7 day cruise through the Alaskan passage. (Not recommended for honeymooners, don’t want to get started in your marriage with cold feet) The cruise ship we stayed on, Celebrity Cruise Line, was 10x more posh than the Carnival ship of days gone by.

Last minute deals may be to nerve wrecking for your soon to be wife, keep this in mind.  I do have the advantage now of traveling on a flexible schedule.  If you don’t want to be too spontaneous this option is not for you.

Also a great way to stay is through a bed and breakfast.  This gives you the oppurtunity to break out of the mold of the “hotel” and be pampered.  Usually the rooms are much more luxurious and the accomodations more relaxed.  On a bad note, the entire bed and breakfast may hear the sounds of you consemating your marriage.  Take the good with the bad.
