Honeymoon in Phoenix, AZ or just a family vacation

July 31st, 2008 by admin

Earlier this month my family and I went on a vacation to Phoenix, AZ.  We were invited to attend the wedding of new friends we made while on our Alaskan cruise last year.  We decided to turn it into a family road trip, and I’m so glad we did.

This was one of the best summer vacations we’ve ever taken.  With gas prices and the economy like it is, we decided to tone down our usual vacation itinerary, filled with sites, attractions, eating out, and an expensive hotel room.  Instead we opted for a nice condo that included 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room, and most importantly a pool.  We spent most of our time at the pool swimming.  We ate our meals in a cozy little kitchen, and had a wonderful time.

We still ate out a couple of times.  We found the strangest little restaurant called the Chino Bandido with a fusion of Chinese and Mexican cuisines.  (Watch for my review, coming soon!)  We attended our friends’ beautiful wedding with a night filled with dancing that even baby Lolo got in on!  We made new friends and definitely a lot of wonderful memories.

The one “big” thing we wanted to do was see the Grand Canyon.  I’ve seen it before on a band trip when I was a senior in high school.  But David and the kids had never seen this majestic sight, so we made a day of it, driving up to the Grand Canyon Village, and then hiking into the canyon itself, which I had never done.  It wasn’t a very long hike—hard to do with a five-year-old and one-year-old in tow, but it was so beautiful and scenic.  One day I hope to do it again, maybe even on the donkeys!

On our trip home, we decided to take a different way along historic Route 66.  It was awesome.  We took our time and had so much fun.  It may not have been our typical vacation, and it doesn’t seem like we “did” a whole lot.  But I guess this vacation was about quality events not the quantity of the events, and I guess that’s why this one will always be one our best vacations.

If you’re interested in visiting Phoenix check out Trusted Tours & Attractions online and click on their Phoenix page.  They give a lot of information about tours and things to do.  They’re even doing a contest where if you sign up for their newsletter you have a chance of winning $150 worth of Itunes.  A great place for online travel guides
that’s for sure.

One day in the future I hope to go to New York City again and take time to see the Metropolitan museum of art. These guys also have some helpful info on things to do in New York. But if you’re like most of us in Florida, we go to Orlando more than once a year and they have a refreshing list of things to do in Orlando also.
