Man sues over $35K engagement ring after waiting 2 years

September 27th, 2007 by admin

He waiteded for her to return it for 2 years. I think he’s been patient enough.

A Grosse Pointe Park man in Michigan filed a lawsuit in Macomb Circuit Court on September 15th seeking to stop his ex-fiancee from selling the $35,000 engagement ring he gave her in 2001.  (I wonder if she realizes she will probably only get about $15,000 for it….. these things don’t resell to consumers very well….) Man sues to get back $67K engagement ring

August 21st, 2007 by admin

Before I even begin telling this story I want to explain one thing.  Getting engaged 1 month after dating someone seems a little desperate.  Buying an engagement ring that’s over $10,000 for this special someone of a few weeks seems like a bribe.  I believe the lady decided being with this guy was not worth keeping a $67,000 diamond ring. White House engagement - Jenna Bush?

August 16th, 2007 by admin

Jenna Bush to wedIt was announced today that Jenna Bush (on right) , 25, is now engaged to marry Henry Hager, 29, her boyfriend of several years.

Do you ever wander if Henry has been tricked by the twin sisters on past dates? I’ve heard of quite a few first hand stories of twins pulling pranks on their dates for entertainment.  I’m sure the “Bush” sisters are no different.  If pulling off the switch with Henry all Barbara Bush would have to say is, “I did my hair different” and the typical guy would say….. “Oh, that’s what seems different about you today.”

I’m sure we will read a tell all book once the girls hit their 40’s and we will know the truth about the antics the twins pulled on their teachers and boyfriends.

I would love to hear what was said when Henry asked Mr Bush for his daughter’s hand in marriage.  It might of gone something like this:

ICE.com - Save An Extra 15% On All Jewelry & Watches!Jenna Bush Engagement Ring
Henry: I have a question to ask you sir.

President: Go ahead and ask.

Henry: Now that I’ve raised 5 million dollars for the next Republican candidate can I have your daighter’s hand in marriage?

President:Which one?

Henry:Jenna…..

President:The one you’ve been dating for all these years……. I think she’s at least worth 8 million in campaign contributions.

Henry: Actually, Mr. President I’ve raised 10 million but only 5 million that can be tracked by the campaign finance committie.

President:  I’ve always liked you Henry, sure you can have her hand in marriage.

Solid investments are not found in engagement rings

August 3rd, 2007 by beth16

If you are buying an engagement ring as an investment for the ring’s value you are more stupid than the caveman on the Geico commercials. De Beers and other retailers like to push that diamonds are forever but realisticly their value is not eternal. Read the rest of this entry »

Simple solitaire…..maybe not so simple.

July 27th, 2007 by beth16

Confused man looking for an engagement ringWhat is the perfect engagement ring? Gone are the days of the simple diamond solitaire set in a plain gold band. Most women today want an engagement ring that reflects who they are as a person. Men not only have to consider size, shape, and precious metal, they must also consider color, setting, and most importantly their fiance’s style and personality. I can only imagine how daunting a task this may seem to most men, but it’s not an impossible one. I recommend taking some time before you buy to do a little research.

Talk to your girlfriend’s best friend, her mother, or her sister. Pay attention to the jewelry she currently wears. Take note, does she prefer classic yellow gold or white gold. What is her personality like? Is she more quiet and traditional, because a simpler ring (though not plain) would probably suit her. Or are you in love with a girl who is bubbly and outgoing, because she may want something a little more unique.

Probably the simplest and most accurate way of finding the perfect ring is to ask your girlfriend what she wants. Most women have an idea of what they would like their engagement ring to look like, if they don’t already have the exact one they want picked out, and possibly already put on hold! You can’t go wrong if you just ask.

But for those of you fellas out there that are hopeless romantics (God love you), and you want nothing more than to surprise your love with the perfect ring, just remember to take your time, and look for the ring that reminds you of her. You’ll know it when you see it, especially if you’ve done your homework. Remember, most women spend hours searching for the perfect wedding dress that will only be worn for one short day. Shouldn’t you invest just as much time finding the perfect ring that she will wear for the rest of her life.

Carat Weight of a diamond

July 13th, 2007 by admin

This is the weight of a diamond measured in carats. As the carat weight of a diamond increases so does its rarity and therefore its price.  Do not rush to judge a diamond based on it’s weight. One carat is divided into 100 “points,” so that a diamond of 75 points weights .75 carats. The carat-weight of a diamond is the easiest measurement to determine. Most importantly, two diamonds can be of equal carat-weight, but their value can differ greatly due to their cut, color, and clarity.

If your fiance wants a 2 carat engagement ring you can pay as little as $15 for a cubic zirconia on Ebay to $22.500 on diamond.com for a round cut, Clairty SI1-SI2, color G-H. At the end of the day find a setting that pleases your wife.  This actually effects your wife’s like factor of the ring significantly.  The carat weight determines her bragging factor to her friends.

Should you insure your enagegment ring?

June 21st, 2007 by admin

It astounds me that men do not purchase insurance on their engagement rings right after they buy them.Insurance for your loose diamond, or diamond engagement ring, should be part of your budget for the ring in the first place; that is how important it is.

You wouldn’t think twice about driving your car without insurance, right, or do you?
Driving a car without insurance is illegal, whereas wearing a diamond ring without insurance is not, this is true.

Can you handle the what if?

I’m not talking about getting pulled over by a cop…I’m talking about protecting your investment!!

In many cases, your car doesn’t even cost as much as as your diamond engagement ring and is not nearly as easy to lose, or have stolen from you!

Your engagement ring is not only sentimental, it is also quite valuable. Now if your ring is less than $3000 this might not be as important to you.

Engagement rings get lost and stolen every single day.

An engagement ring can get lost or stolen just as easily when you are wearing it, as when you are not.

Unfortunately, people get mugged all of the time. People also lose their rings. My wife usually just loses them. Consider, you are at a fancy restaurant and you go to the sink to wash your hands. Many times you will take off the ring while you are washing up. If you would only know how many stories we have heard of ladies who had accidently left their rings behind on the sink counter after washing in a public place, only to return and find the ring lost/stolen.

A car might get lost/stolen when it is left parked in a garage or on the street (higher chance in downtown Miami). However, it is hardly a likely scenario when you are actually driving it.

Not so with an engagement ring, where it is possible for your diamond to pop out of the prongs (given the right knock on a hard surface..etc.) and be lost forever, even as you are wearing it.
An engagement ring is one of the most expensive, sentimental, valuable and memorable items you will ever own.
If you lose it, misplace it, or have it stolen, you and your spouse would be devastated.
In fact, I have (unfortunately) actually seen marriages suffer as a result of such an episode…and especially when there was no insurance coverage on the engagement ring. Happens more often in shallow marriages than marriages based on more than a ring.

This is one of the first things I instruct our clients to do after they purchase a diamond engagement ring from any company.

Purchase INSURANCE!

It is really not that difficult today to secure insurance on a diamond engagement ring.
Many people choose to add the coverage of the ring to their existing home owners insurance policy, as a rider or “addendum” to the plan. Others, choose to purchase a separate and entirely exclusive insurance plan for their jewelry and engagement rings. It is typically cheaper to just add it to your homeowners policy.
Either way, insurance rates today on diamonds and jewelry are very competitive and there are many really good insurance companies offering comprehensive insurance policies to protect your diamond ring investment.
Speak to your insurance broker or agent to find out which policy is right for you. The insurance policy will take into account the purchase or appraised value of your diamond engagement ring and ensure that you have adequate coverage in the event of loss or theft.
To all of you who have already purchased your diamond engagement rings and have procrastinated on getting the ring insured; thikn long and hard about how losing the ring would affect you.

Believe me, my wife knows the feeling of endorphines pumping through you when you first put that beautiful diamond engagement ring on your finger. It all surreal and all you wish to do is stare at that beauty all day long……. some women are just happy that the guy they love has finally gotten around to asking the big question.
The “boring” task of securing insurance for the engagement ring, suddenly becomes the last thing on your mind and you push it to the recesses of your consciousness as just another item on your “to do list”.

This could be a MISTAKE.
If your ring gets lost or stolen…(and it only has to happen once), you wife may blame herself for eternity.
Please take my advice and make this (insurance coverage) your second highest priority after securing your diamond engagement ring.

……..Your first priority is to fall in love with your wife and express appreciation to each other. Don’t forget about this token of your love and make sure you look at insurance when you are buying the ring.  Not after you lose it.

Funny nudist engagement story

May 16th, 2007 by admin

Funny nudist engagement storyScott and I had been together for nine years when we booked to go on holiday to Skiathos in Greece. I had just presumed it was going to be a usual two week break. However, Scott had other plans.

We decided that it would be fun to hire a boat for the day but due to the weather and the rough sea this plan was thwarted for three days running. Scott seemed to be really disappointed about the setback and I coundn’t undserstand why. Anyway, we eventually managed to hire a boat and went out on the open seas. We were having a really good laugh until it started raining. As I can’t swim I began to get a bit scared so I asked if we could find a beach. John insisted that we find an empty one and when we did, we moored up.

On the beach, the rain stopped and the sun began to break through the clouds. We laid out our towels, although I was still wrapped up in mine as the rain and wind on the sea had been freezing. Suddenly, Scott began to kneel but then laid on his side and said: “While the sun has peeked out, will you marry me?” Completely shocked, all I could say was: “What, are you joking?” while laughing hysterically.

Scott clearly wasn’t joking and asked me if that meant yes, to which I replied yes. Then he pulled out a little box with a white gold diamond and teal ring. At this point, my emotions took over and I started to cry - as did Scott.

The ring fit perfectly and we laid on the towel cuddling, only to be interrupted by some splashing. Looking up, we saw a naked swimmer in the sea. He was then joined by another couple of men and we realized that we were not on our own secluded beach but on the corner of a nudist beach. This could have ruined our perfect moment but instead we sat there laughing.

I rang my mum and dad and found out that Scott had rang my dad before the holiday to ask his permission. I don’t know who was crying more - me or them.

If you have a funny engagememnt story we would love to hear from you. Leave a comment and we will post it.
